Conceptual Emergencies

"In today's world the most advanced among us know little more than one piece of the elephant, and there are now so many different pieces...that even if we had the technology to put them all together we would still not be able to make sense of the whole."

International Futures Forum, TEN Things To Do In A Conceptual Emergency

Okay, this is a few years old,2003, but I just read it and, if nothing else, the title aggravated my philosophical funny bone.

The TEN things are:
"DESIGN FOR TRANSITION TO A NEW WORLD
GIVE UP ON THE MYTH OF CONTROL
TRUST SUBJECTIVE EXPERIENCE
TAKE THE LONG VIEW
FORM AND NURTURE INTEGRITIES
PRACTICE SOCIAL ACUPUNCTURE
SUSTAIN NETWORKS OF HOPE
CONVERGE IDEAS AND ACTION
RE-PERCEIVE THE PRESENT
MOVE BEYOND ENLIGHTENMENT CONSCIOUSNESS"

A few footnotes. By "integrities" they mean flexible, open-ended partnerships of a sort that go beyond integration. And by "social acupuncture" they mean "small interventions skillfully administered to have large systemic effects."

Not bad advice. Has anyone worked with the International Futures Forum in the U.S.? If so, did you overcome your conceptual emergency? Any unintended consequences?
