Mistake Chewing

"Big-name producers of makeup, yogurt, eco-friendly cleaning products and hip sportswear all have had their shares of big-time gaffes."

Laura Petrecca, "Learning from their mistakes," USA TODAY, September 28, 2009.

This little collection of horror stories should be titled "surviving my mistakes." For the most part, super-successful entrepreneurs tell all about how they didn't focus on collections or were too trusting of their accountants, etc. But consumers wanted their products and fixes were made.

The one story that breaks this mold is about Wally Amos and Famous Amos cookies.

"Teamwork -- that is the greatest lesson I learned from losing Famous Amos."

I wonder how many business failures result from implementation blunders of this kind rather than just being bad business ideas?
