Killer Germans

"For a thoroughly fascinating, true glimpse into the horrors that vanity and self-delusion can wreak, take some time to see 'The Baader Meinhof Complex'"

Michael La Salle, "The Baader Meinhof Complex," San Francisco Chronicle, September 4, 2009.

What motivates middle-class kids and adults to bomb a department store, heist banks, shoot innocents, and turn on each other like snakes? Background images of Vietnam and other horrors provide ample justification for protest, but no justification for the Baader Meinhof cult of anti-politics and violence.

Were the U.S. "weatherpeople," SLA and other U.S. terrorists less ready to follow self delusion to its bitter end? Their self-justifying memoirs provide few clues.
